Star blocks make the perfection addition to any Christmas quilt! This block would be extra special with a fussy cut center.

This block finishes at 6" or 12" square.

Instructions list the dimensions for the 12" block in brackets.

6" Block 12" Block
From background fabric, cut (1) 3½” square, (4) 2⅜" squares cut once on the diagonal to create 8 triangles, and (4) 2" squares From background fabric, cut (1) 6½” square, (4) 3⅞" squares cut once on the diagonal to create 8 triangles, and (4) 3½" squares
From red print #1, cut (2) 2¾” squares cut twice on the diagonal to yield 8 triangles From red print #1, cut (2) 4¼” squares cut twice on the diagonal to yield 8 triangles
From red print #2, cut (2) 2¾” squares squares cut twice on the diagonal to yield 8 triangles From red print #2, cut (2) 4¼” squares squares cut twice on the diagonal to yield 8 triangles

Make Quarter Square Triangles

Pair each red print #1 triangle with a red print #2 triangle. Sew together using a scant ¼” seam. Press seam open (this will reduce bulk). Join with a background triangle as shown. Press toward the darker fabric. Square up to 2" [3½"] square. Make 8 of these units.

Assemble Block

Assemble block in rows as shown. Starch and press completed block. Trim to 6½"  [12½"] square.

This block finishes at 6" or 12" square.
