Dear Oda May: Kiss Kiss Birdie Quilt
Dear Oda May: Kiss Kiss Birdie Quilt
Dear Readers,
We often get questions about which pattern to use for a special quilt or advice on enlarging or shrinking a pattern. Sometimes readers get stuck or miscut fabric and need advice to finish their project. Oda May is here to answer your quilting dilemmas!
Today's dilemma is from reader Joyce who has a lovely stack of applique birds that she would like to combine with precuts to create a finished quilt. Let's see how Oda May solves her dilemma!
THE PROBLEM:
{from Joyce} I have a daunting project that includes (19) 16" square heritage bird blocks from my daughter in law's late grandmother. Your Kiss Kiss line seems to have the perfectly coordinating bird and I have Love Bird Cloud yardage, a jelly roll, a charm pack, and a layer cake. Need your suggestion for a pattern. Thanks.
THE SOLUTION:
I suggest {Jelly Roll Baskets} by Chef Shannon Mower. The block size works well with the vintage applique blocks and the baskets show off the colors and patterns in the fabric line. I created a rendering with a few more baskets that uses 12 of the bird blocks. This will leave several for a second quilt to combine with the layer cake that Joyce also has.
If you would like to create your own version of this quilt, download the bird applique {here} and pick out your favorite Jelly Roll!
P.S. The bird in the file can be scaled to your desired size. Simply print out larger or smaller than 100% scale.
Happy Sewing,
